In our previous blog, we discussed the various benefits of using CBD and what the difference is between CBD only and full spectrum products. We also took a dive into what the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is and its role in the human body. Now we would like to take a closer look at how CBD works with the ECS to help with specific conditions and ailments beginning with the most common uses for CBD – pain relief and inflammation.
We know that the endocannabinoid system has receptors that are predominantly found throughout our immune and nervous systems. These receptors bind to the endocannabinoids that naturally occur within our bodies such as anandamide, as well as the cannabinoids that are taken in from outside sources such as CBD. The first receptor is cannabinoid-1 (CB-1) and is the main receptor associated with binding to CBD. CB-1 is predominantly expressed on cells found in the nervous system and works to suppress nociceptive sensation, otherwise known as pain. Once bound, CBD and CB-1 work together to help cope with chronic pain associated with disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Neuropathic damage, Fibromyalgia, and more. Cannabinoid-2 (CB-2) is the second receptor and its expression is mainly found on cells throughout the immune system. This receptor works as an immunomodulatory by stimulating antibody formation and inhibits white blood cell activity. This is a promising factor for those that struggle with inflammation.
Today, CBD may be administered sublingually with a tincture, applied topically with a salve or balm, ingested by capsule or edible, and even vaporized using a vape pen. Salves and balms are typically favored when focusing on localized pain, whereas tinctures and capsules are taken more so when managing chronic pain. Our RELIEF salve is a topical that contains ingredients such as freshly ground ginger and cayenne pepper to help improve circulation and relieve inflammation, soothing coconut and olive oil for moisture and absorption, beeswax to help lock in moisture, a blend of essential oils that include peppermint and eucalyptus, and of course, CBD. Combined, these ingredients work well together when combatting sore muscles post-workout, stiff joints caused by arthritis, inflammation due to various disorders, and so much more. Our CAPS and DROPS help with managing pain from the inside out by binding to cannabinoid receptors found in the ECS more rapidly. Proper dosing is imperative to our DROPS and CAPS being effective, so please read our descriptions found on our website carefully for further information. We highly recommend using a topical alongside a capsule or tincture for best results.
